The story of love unfolds gradually, on the rise. Tenderness, passion, despair, grief, fierce devotion, thirst for life, faith in their vocation, sincere service to their chosen cause - the young people grow up and grow wise before the audience's eyes. During two hours of stage action two destinies - equally successful and equally broken - are intertwined and unraveled on stage.
At the beginning of the story youthful and reckless, in the finale wise and tired, they carry their mutual and unfulfilled love through all their lives. High politics did not allow them to be together, and they could not become happy apart, despite the achieved heights of profession and seemingly established personal life. He is married, she is married, he is successful, she is popular - but he is in the Soviet Union, she is in Poland, and they cannot be together, and everything else means so little....
