Cyrano de Bergerac

Edmond Rostand. A Heroic Comedy. Translated by Vladimir Solovyov

A poet, a bretherette, a romantic, Rostanov's Cyrano is one of the literary symbols of high love. All that he could say to his beloved, he gives to another man – the one she is infatuated with. Another man speaks his words, another man for his words loves the woman and learns the truth after many years ...
"Cyrano de Bergerac" – the story of how people tried to make their loved ones happy – and as a result lived not their lives. Rostand's heroic comedy is about love and war, which turn out to be so similar, mixed and intertwined, intensifying passions. People live cheerfully, desperately and every hour is like the last, trying to grab everything possible from life here and now. And this "here and now" deprives them of the future – but they realize this too late. The self-sacrificing Gascon, noble poet Cyrano spins a mad romantic intrigue – and finds himself the victim of it.

Alexander Bargman's performance is an attempt to break through historical, cultural and theatrical legends to the living Cyrano. To understand what kind of person this fierce Gascon, madly in love, fleeing from his love, was. What he lived and breathed, lighted by sparks of hope for happiness and destroyed by them.
